Stourgarden is situated alongside the beautiful Stour Valley on the Essex Suffolk border where the Rix family have been growing onions for three generations since 1968. At their site on Lodge Farm, Colchester, they have a purpose built, state of the art packhouse and High Care processing factory, incorporating the most up to date technology and machinery. Today they handle more than one million individual packs of onions every week. This amounts to over 75,000 tonnes of onions a year, which is over 400 million individual bulbs. They have zero food waste from their operations, with all onions that are not fit for retail, utilised in their high care prepared factory and turned into ready to eat food ingredients. The majority of their onions are all grown locally with UK growers within a 50-mile radius of Stourgarden - including Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk and Kent.
